Chicago Montessori opened its doors in 2005 as a one-room preschool and has grown to over ninety students between the ages of 18 months to 8 years. It is the first school in the city of Chicago to be accredited exclusively by Association Montessori International (AMI). AMI was started by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1929 to preserve the integrity of her life´s work with children, train teachers, and oversee the direction of schools around the world under her original guidelines. The AMI accreditation demonstrates our commitment to the highest quality Montessori education available.
In our classrooms you will find children at all levels actively engaged in real and meaningful work. The toddlers growing sense of community is strengthened through their daily preparation and enjoyment of a group meal. The primary classrooms demonstrate mixed ages with an expanded academic curriculum. The elementary years focus on time management and completion of group research projects with weekly student-teacher meetings to monitor individual progress.
The elementary program (6-12 years) which began fall of 2010 is now accepting applications for kindergarten, first, and second grade. Montessori classroom experience is preferred, but not required.
In addition to our AMI curriculum we offer Spanish, gym, and music seamlessly integrated into the day. Our school emphasizes facilitating independence as a means to life, the building of character in young children and the individual´s contribution to community.
We invite you to browse the website and contact the Director with any questions regarding our programs.
Open Houses are scheduled in advance for November - March.
